Swimmers Enjoy Life in the Fast Lane

Kaitaia College swimmers broke several long-standing medals at the schools swimming sports day on Friday, February 18.

School Sports Co-Ordinator, Juice Brown, described the day as a "huge success" noting entries were up from last year.

Meanwhile the school's 2011 champions were as follows (as seen in accompanying photo from back left):  Tom Snelling (Senior Boys), Haidee Switzer (Senior Girls), Michael Larkin (Junior Boys);
front - Darcy Chapman (Intermediate Boys), Shayna Rogers-Christensen (Junior Girls), Talia Rogers (Intermediate Girls).

The records broken in the day's heats were as follows: (NR indicates new school record, OR old record).
Junior boys, 1 length breaststroke
- Michael Larkin NR 23.36s (OR 24.05s Murray Parker 1977)
Intermediate Girls, 1 length breaststroke
- Talia Rogers NR 24.82s (OR 25.24 Moira Crewther 1987)
Intermediate Girls, 2 length backstroke
- Talia Rogers NR 48.84s (OR 51.05s Ashley Masters 2006)
Final 1 length backstroke
- Talia Rogers NR 22.44s (OR 23.08 Donna Cowie 1991)
