Next Event-SPRINTCITY-Sunday 22nd July

The next event is something different from the thickets of the forest. The Sprint is an event-type which we have not run up here before.But seeing that there will a Sprint as part of the Auckland Orienteering Championships that will will be held up here in October  (make sure you mark you calendar for  this 13-14th Oct!!) we thought it would be fun to give you an idea of what it is about.
A sprint, classically ,is a fast running course,designed so the winner finishes in about 15min (but as always we will have walking /family sections-so don't be put off by the need for speed .
The navigation is generally a little easier as the controls are closer together. In town it will be buildings,paths,roads,carparks,gardens-so you are looking at different building shapes,getting the right side of the building,building corners,stairs and doorways. The map is magnified to a 1:5000map.
The decision making needs to be accurate and fast if you are going to win.Any mistakes can lead to catastophe in terms of time!!.

Time registration from 945am, course closure 1230pm
Costs: Adults $7 per map , students $5

There will be a 1km and 3km  course.

It will be great for novices/sunday walkers, but a great challenge for those who's legs and lungs are  still up for it and want to test themselves at speed .
