NSSSA Under 15 Boys Rugby Tournament 2012

Game 1 vs Dargaville High School

The first game for 2012 was a home game against Dargaville High School on the afternoon of Wednesday, 9th May.

The boys got off to a good start, scoring some good early tries.  The College boys had good defence, holding out the Dargaville team and keeping them scoreless at half time.

Dargaville worked hard in the second half, using there fitness to put some much needed points on the board. Kaitaia College came through to win convincingly 55-20 over their rivals.

Congratulations to the players of the day Malcolm Tatnell in the backs and Walter Pomare in the forwards.

The sports co-ordinator expressed her thanks to Dargaville High school for making the long trip over and all the staff at Kaitaia college that assisted with food for the visitors and a special thanks to our new coaches Grant Baker,
Trevor Beatson and Student/Manager -
Mitchell Jurlina.

The boys play their next game at Whangaroa on Wednesday, 23rd May.

This year Northland Rugby Union are running the Under 15's Northland Secondary School Rugby Competition with a home and away format.

The kick off times will be scheduled at 3.30pm at each venue unless both schools agree to an earlier kick off.

Our first game will be Wednesday, 9th May 2012 at the Kaitaia College Top fields with a
kick off at 1.30pm.

Parents and supporters are welcome to come along.

NSSSA Under 15 Boys Rugby Tournament 2011

Game One : vs Okaihau College
The boys were able to score at will in the first half, with tries to Wiremu Pomare, John Bell,
Jordan Aiono, Gabe McBirney and Peter Smith.

The second half saw Okaihau College fight back, limiting Kaitaia College to just one try to
Jordan Aiono.  Final score was 32-0.

Game Two: vs Kerikeri High School
Kaitaia found themselves down in less than a minute and a half at 14-0.  The boys rallied back, especially in the second half, to find the final score line at 38-28 to Kerikeri High School.

NSSSA Under 15 Boys Rugby Tournament

Coach Wayne Harrison and Manager Lance Berghan were extremely happy with their team, who played at the recent rugby tournament
hosted by Northland College.

Currently, the team is unbeaten and have yet to see their oppostion cross their try line.

The Coach commended the team on their commitment to trainings, and the boys' team spirit.

NZ MAORI TEAM - Maori Youth Development

Tiki Edwards is the Maori Liaison Officer for the
New Zealand Rugby Union.  As part of the 2010 NZRU Maori rugby centenary programme they are inviting all Maori rugby players from all secondary schools from around the Northland region to watch NZ Maori team open training, meet the players and after training, listen to some of the players sharing what it takes to be a professional player.

A good series of games were held at Arnold Rae Park on Tuesday, 11th May 2010 - with Kaitaia College winning both matches and not conceding any points in the process.

The first game against Kerikeri was an arm wrestle at first, with Kaitaia finally puling away to a half-time score of 26/0.  Forwards and backs combined well in the second half, against the wind, to score a further 27 points. Final score 53/0.

The second game against Bay of Islands College saw some impressive rugby from both sides, with Kaitaia scoring 21/0 points in the first half and
17 points in the second.  Final score 38/0.
